Soon we will live at sea: architects presented a self-sufficient floating city

Architectural corporations around the world are trying to rethink urban life due to rising sea levels and a lack of housing. Today they are turning their eyes to the sea and the possibilities that it opens before humanity. Many people come to the conclusion that in the near future we can not cope without the cities built on water surfaces. One of these days, one of the UN agencies held a large-scale meeting on the topic of expanding the territories arranged for people's lives.

The leaders in the development of sustainable floating cities is the Bjarke Ingels Group Corporation, which presented its developments of “marine settlements” at the conference.

The company designed the self-contained city of Oceanix City, in which ten thousand people can comfortably live. It is built on hexagonal islands tied to the bottom of the ocean. The city is able to withstand even very difficult climatic conditions, it can engage in the production of food and electricity, as well as manage waste disposal. In addition, in the future, the project can develop and grow.

It will look like a city from the air.

The materials with which the islands will attach to the seabed are designed specifically to stimulate the growth of coral reefs.

Flexible design allows you to expand the scale of the city in the range from 300 to 10 thousand inhabitants.
