You will be amazed when you see what this magnificent 100-year-old theater has turned into

A delightful bookstore called El Ateneo Grand Splendid lurks in Barrio Norte, in Buenos Aires. The store is located in the almost 100-year-old building of the Grand Splendid Theater, opened in 1919. The theater was later transformed into a movie, and in 2000 it turned into a bookstore. Today it hosts over one million visitors every year.

The magnificent building was designed by architects Perot and Torres Armengola. Then, from the cinema to the bookstore, it was turned by architect Fernando Manzone, who preserved many parts of the theater in its original form, including the stage, balconies, incredible architectural details and even red curtains. In 2008, the reputable publication The Guardian named El Ateneo Grand Splendid the second most beautiful store in the world.
