How Stockholm Railway Station Gets Thermal Power from Passengers

Passengers carefully listen to the dispatcher’s voice, go to the boarding gate, issue tickets at the check-in counter or get bored while waiting for their train. This is what the railway station in Stockholm looks like, the capital of Sweden, which at first glance is no different from most other stations around the world. But actually it is not. It turns out that this metro station not only fulfills its main purpose, but also produces thermal energy ... at the expense of the people in it.

Not far from the station is a typical office building with 13 floors, for the heating of which the heat of passengers is used. Heated water enters the building with an area of almost 30 thousand square meters. m. and allows you to save ¼ part of the energy that usually goes to heating offices. In the Swedish climate, with a long winter by European standards, such savings translate into a very tangible amount.

It is worth noting that a similar heating system due to the heat of a large number of people exists in other places. This method of generating energy works in some shopping centers and metro stations. And in Finland in one of the corporate buildings they collect energy that is released when a large number of computers work.
