Where is the world's largest globe with a diameter of 12.5 meters

Many held a globe in their hands, rotating which, you can quickly find any point on the Earth’s layout. But there are such globes that it is impossible to pick up and quickly find the place of interest on them, and in order to examine the surface from the North to the South Pole, you will have to rise to the height of a 3-storey building. A globe of such incredible size, which also rotates, is called Ertha and is located in the American city of Yarmouth, Maine. Here, in the building of the company DeLorme, which is engaged in the production of various cartographic products, is the largest rotating globe in the world.

The idea of creating such a globe arose in 1998, and by 1999 the work had been completed. In order to place this grandiose model of the globe, it was necessary to build an individual room, designed specifically for the convenience of visitors. After all, this globe was built not only to get into the Guinness Book of Records, to delight and surprise, but also so that it could be used for its intended purpose. The building has stairs, and visitors, rising to the desired height and waiting for the turn of the globe, can inspect any area of interest.

The weight of this grandiose structure is 2.5 tons, and the diameter is 41 feet, that is 12.5 meters. The inclination of the axis of rotation of the layout is 23.5 degrees, as well as that of the Earth, but the rotation speed is somewhat faster. Depending on the given mode, a giant globe makes a complete revolution around its axis at different times, from 1 minute to 1 hour. The scale of the cartographic sheets covering the globe is 1: 1 000 000, that is, 10 kilometers of the real surface of our planet fit in every centimeter of Erta. On the surface is a physical map of the planet, cities and infrastructure that could be reflected on an existing scale. A massive database of cartographic material, which was used to create the model, is attached to the Earth globe.

Anyone can visit this unique object. The globe, located in a glass building, is effectively illuminated from the inside, which makes it noticeable even in the dark.
