One and a half hours drive from New York

Another photo sketch from the car window while traveling around the neighborhood with a sleeping daughter in the back seat.

As you know, I live in New Jersey, but I live in the very north, actually on the border with the state of New York. And so it turns out that if you go from me somewhere to the south or east, then everything is densely populated there and has long been mastered. Affects the proximity of New York. But the north or west, the more space, freezing air and easier life. Since I have enough cities for work, I usually go west or north. Where there are not very high, but already mountains, endless fields, farms on every corner and a completely different rhythm of life that is radically different from New York. The border is the last stop of the bus going to Manhattan. There are still people living there, working somewhere in Midtown and going to work every day, but once you cross an invisible line, everything is changing dramatically. Another way, different views on life. Even cars and houses are completely different.

There are no traffic jams in our area, but there are very few cars. If you go on some country road, then they do not exist at all. The houses are large and stand at a decent distance from each other. There are no highways and large shopping centers on every corner. Shops and even the usual fast-food chain, such as Dunkin Donuts or McDonalds, are disappearing. And all this is actually an hour and a half drive from America's largest metropolis.

If you go very far away, then all this will reappear, but I like the reserved undeveloped environment, and I try to slightly approach the foci of American civilization. The ideal road is where no one drives. Where you can calmly stand on the sidelines and take a photo.

Farm with cows. Apparently, the higher the hay, the tastier it is :)

I think that it is not necessary to explain what it is. Typically, homes have all the amenities, and such toilets are kept for special moments of unity with nature.

Farmers are conservative people and often do not use the latest technology. Why do we need a new pickup when the old one drives well.

Tractor cabin in the color of the tractor.

Most horses on farms are insulated for the winter with special cloaks, but this, apparently, does not matter for the cold. What is this breed, interesting?

Chicken coop. Fresh eggs are sold in a barn across the road.

Another farm. And here, too, cows are bred. By the way, you can buy meat right there.

Whether we live in a house or not, you can understand by the cleaned snow. So the porches are cleaned to 99.9% of the houses. There are practically no abandoned or empty buildings.

Roads in this part of the state look like this.

Abandoned farm and Toyota FJ40, which costs good money. Killed and rusty items start at $ 4,000. For those that are in good condition and with reasonable mileage, they can easily ask for $ 20,000.

Apparently, school buses are doing here. Ready-made frames with cabs come from the factory, and bodies are placed on them.

Mid-Orange Prison.

True, it was closed in 2011, so it looks like something abandoned. I would love to climb there, but the territory is still guarded. The truth is no longer jailers, but the usual security company.

Farm on which alpacas are bred.

A completely ordinary house for those places. Two to three floors and a mandatory garage for two cars.

Sometimes a lot of land is also attached to the house.

Fire Department. Firefighters are all volunteers who come from home in case of a call.

Old railway station, which has become a grocery store.

This is how the new building looks.

Country road. Mandatory wooden poles, speed limit of 30 miles and no markings.

Well, the last one. Sfotkal already on the way home. Homes on the shores of Lake Greenwood Lake.
